Mother Daughter Day

With work, homework, soccer practice, ballet, band concerts, and all of the other things that are involved in raising children; life gets very hectic. During this whirlwind of everyday activity, meaningful time however is hard to come by with our growing children. As children get older, it seems even harder to manage an outing with them yet those teen years can be essential time for children to connect with their parents.

Schedule some quality time every few weeks, with that young lady in your life. Plan a fun excursion that will give you both a wonderful memory:
  1. Go to a climbing gym with her
  2. Take a Cooking workshop together
  3. Go meet your local representative or senator
  4. Paint ceramics at your local Paint-A-Plate place
  5. Go get a pedicure or manicure
  6. Take her to a fancy, dress up dinner
  7. Go on a bike ride on a nature trail
  8. Take your daughter to the theater
  9. Go horseback riding
  10. Bake some cookies and deliver them to an elderly neighbor
  11. Have fun Go Cart Racing
If you do not have a daughter, take a niece or other young relative. The Big Brother Big Sister Program in your area is also a great way to give your time to deserving youth.

Young girls need a positive role model during these formative years. Middle School and High School years are always a socially awkward time, when a young girl is becoming a young lady.

So put away the ipods, ipads, and text messaging & slow down ~ spend some quality time with your little girl before she grows up on you.

It will make a difference :)

First Lady Power

Dolley Madison (1849) was the first president's wife to have the title of First Lady and it has been used with every spouse since.

Many first ladies have been very Influential behind the scenes.
Sarah Polk (1845) secretly helped her husband write his speeches and gave him advise.

Edith Wilson(1915) actually assumed routine daily presidential responsibilities for her husband  when he had a stroke in 1919. She is referred to as the Secret President.

Eleanor Roosevelt(1933) was really the first openly influential president's wife. She was the first who turned the position from one of social entertaining to that of political involvement and philanthropy.

Hillary Rodham Clinton (1993) was the first President's wife that had her own political career independent of her husband before and after his presidential term.

Since the 1960's, First Ladies have been a different strain of wife than the U.S. capital had previously seen. In modern day administrations, they are expected to perform a full time and essential job to this country yet are not given monetary compensation for their duties.

Although a woman has not yet held the presidency, she does hold the President's respect and attention.

The first lady of the United States is at the time of her term, the MOST powerful woman in this country.

Ω SHE'S GOT THE POWER Ω

Heroes Among Us

Nominate a woman you know for a Hero Award.

They say that women work twice as hard and receive half of the credit for all they do on a daily basis. Every community is thriving with unsung heroes, find one in yours and submit HER name for recognition.

Many organizations have a Local Hero Award - Local Radio Stations, Chambers of Commerce, local chapters of NAACP, LULAC, United Way...

Even the most confident of individuals needs to experience appreciation. It is a simple step that could have a big impact. Honor a Woman you work with, who teaches your children, or a health professional, etc. that has been serving the community and taking care of your family for years. Let her know that she is appreciated! By doing so You WILL be her Hero.

True Grit

I come from a long line of gritty women.

My Great Grandmother and Grandmother were out there on the ranch and in the truck stop working right along side the men and didn't, "take nothing off of nobody." My mother put herself through law school while struggling to take care of us. I have strong willed aunts and cousins and nieces.  Being an independent, determined woman who wasn't afraid to forge her own way was nothing new to me; on the contrary, I was predisposed to it.

What You SEE You can CONCEIVE and ACHIEVE

Women who have positive role models growing up are more likely to achieve success in life. When they see strong women whose opinions matter at work and in marriage, that is the kind of relationships they will strive for as well.

On the converse, if they grow up seeing a woman who is hit at home or otherwise mistreated; they are statistically going to recreate the same situation in their own life:
Regardless of whether you are an Investment Banker on Wall Street or a Stay at Home Mom in Bowling Green Kentucky, you are your children's first role model

How you allow other people to treat you and how much you contribute back to society will mold the kind of woman your daughter or kind of man your son becomes.

Never Doubt Your Impact - Especially on the Youth in your Life!

Girl Scouts Forever

This year marks the 100 year Anniversary of Girls Scouts of America

In 1912, Juliette 'Daisy' Low got together a group of young girls for hiking and The Girl Scouts of America was born. An Organization who ~ builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

The Girl Scouts are committed to honoring all paths for girls and empowering them into confident Women

Scout Song
"Girl scouts together onward we go. Joining as sisters stronger we grow
Mothers and lawyers, women in space
We know no boundaries, the future's our place.
"

I was a girl scout from 1-8th grade. It was a great experience for me and definitely shaped my ideas of what women could do. It was alot of FUN as well!

If you have a daughter or other young female relative, I would encourage them to get involved in this organization. You will see a more confident, self sufficient young lady emerge from such a rich experience.

The Price of Beauty

Beauty should be about making people feel good about themselves and happy with who they are, NOT trying to make people look like photoshopped supermodels.
Let's help women to have a healthier body image, one that is conducive to their natural body weight. Some women are born with small structures others with larger structures. Healthy is the key. Strive to eat healthy and stay active rather than diet. I threw away my scale over 20 years ago.

Be mindful of critical remarks of young girls about their looks or weight. These early comments can affect them their whole lives.

Encourage your daughters, nieces, sisters to have REAL LIFE role models rather than Movie Stars and Models.
YOU ARE PERFECT
