Go Move that Mountain

Accomplishments may seem impossible when looked at from a distance. They may seem like a mountain that we cannot climb or move out of the way.

In order to make strides toward things that we want, we must focus on not the big picture but rather the steps along the way. Steady progress will eventually lead us to any goal, big or small.

If we do not hope and wish for accomplishments, then our life will not find any. Goal Setting is an important part of your personal and professional development.

According to Mindtools.com there is a SMART way to set goal:

S Specific - be specific about what you want
M Measurable - make your goal something that you can measure
A Attainable - make it something that is realistic for you to obtain or achieve
R Relevant - find something that is relevant to your life or career
T Trackable - something that you can look back on and see what exactly you have accomplished

Set your mind on a goal, make continuous steps toward it, and eventually you will Move any Mountain!

It is hard when life throws us Challenges. The highs are so much funner than the lows but it is all part of a cycle. Adversity is a part of life. Learning to embrace it and accepting its momentariness helps us make it through the tough times.

One of my favorite books when I was young was The Little Engine That Could. In the story, a toy train breaks down and a little blue engine comes along and offers to help. Despite the engines small size; she perseveres, takes it slow, and believes in herself. She tells herself - "I think I can - I think I can - I think I can" - and sure enough she makes it up the mountain.

Hold on tight during the tough ride up the steep hills of life because as soon as you get to the top, it's an easy ride back down the other side!

In 1614 Pocahontas married a Jamestown colonist, the first recorded interracial marriage in American history.
In 1655 Elizabeth Key, who was a slave in Virginia, won her freedom in a lawsuit based on her father's status as a free Englishman
In 1662 Virginia passed a law stating that any child born would follow the status of his/her mother, slave or free.
In 1693 - Salem Witch Trials
In 1776 Betsy Ross sewed the 1st American Flag
In 1841 The first three women received their Bachelors Degree from Oberlin College
In 1848 Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Stanton organized the first Woman’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls NY
In 1850 Harriet Tubman started the Underground Railroad
In 1851 Sojourner Truth delivered her speech on racial inequalities, Ain't I a Woman?, at the Ohio Women's Rights Convention.
In 1852 Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin.
In 1871 the first state laws specifically making wife beating illegal were passed.
In 1872 Susan B. Anthony was arrested for trying to cast her vote.
In 1900 Women, including a few US, competed for the 1st time in the Olympics
In 1912 Daisy Low founded Girl Scouts
In 1917 Jeannette Rankin, a Republican from Montana, became the first woman elected to the House of Representatives.
In 1920 Women earn the right to vote - 19th Amendment
In 1932 Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly the Atlantic
In 1932 Hattie Caraway of Arkansas became the first woman elected to the Senate.
In 1933 Frances Perkins was appointed as the Secretary of Labor, making her the first woman to hold a job in a Presidential cabinet, FDR's
In 1942 78 Military nurses were held as POWs for over three years.
In 1943 The Women's Airforce Service Pilots ( WASP) was created to free male pilots for combat service.
In 1955 Rosa Parks is arrested for not giving up her bus seat (She did the same thing in 1943)
In 1964 the Civil Rights Act was passed
In 1967 Affirmative Action measures were ordered by President Johnson
In 1978 the Pregnancy Discrimination Act was passed.
In 1981 Sandra Day O'Connor became the first female Supreme Court Justice
In 1984 Geraldine Ferraro became the first woman nominated for Vice President by a major party.
In 1996 the US Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional for Military Institutes to deny entry to females.
In 2008 Ann Dunwoody became the first female four-star general in the United States military.
