Gossip Girls Gone Wild

Gossiping
An American Tradition among Women

In the early days of this country; especially on the frontier, there were no formal modes of communication.

Women would gather during quilting bees, jelly making, and barn raisings; they would talk of all that was happening in the community and develop friendships. Newspapers were a city amenity. Even in the urban areas most people still conveyed news of marriages, childbirths, and deaths by word of mouth.

Today with news streaming on a continual basis; gossip has moved from a way to convey important events to a way to slander others.

Gossip is very addicting and we all fall prey to it; but it is also very damaging, especially to female friendships. It serves as another form of division among us that should be eradicated if strengthening the bonds of the community is the goal.

To Bee or Not to Bee

That is the question.

Bees have an interesting social dynamic.

Queen Bee
There is only one queen per hive. Fertilized eggs become female (worker bees) and unfertilized eggs become male (drone bees). When the queen dies or becomes unproductive, the other bees will "make" a new queen by selecting a young larva and feeding it a diet of "royal jelly".
Worker Bee
Worker bees are female bees that are not able to reproduce. Nearly all of the bees in a hive are worker bees. They feed, bath and guard the queen, tend to the nursery, collect food, etc. Worker bees live from 6 weeks to a few months, they actually work themselves to death.
Drone Bee
Drones are male bees. They are kept only for mating. Because the drone has a barbed sex organ, mating is followed by death. Drones still alive in the autumn are expelled from the hive.

In Bee culture, the whole hive centers around the Queen Bee, all others are there to serve her and the hive. Unfortunately there seems to be a Trend these days toward the Queen Bee Syndrome.

The problem with this scenario is that we are not bees - we are human beings and we should act humanely and treat others with mutual respect.

We should not look at what others have to offer us but rather, what do I have to offer this world!

Where are you Ms. President?

In the year 2012, we still have yet to have a woman president in the US. We have not even a Serious Female Presidential Candidate in the Primaries, It's embarrassing really.

Here are a list of countries that have had or have female Heads of State - England, Ireland, Switzerland, Finland, Iceland, Germany, Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Haiti, Panama, Chile, Costa Rica, Brazil, Indonesia, Guyana, Liberia, Sri Lanka, India, China, The Philippines, Latvia, Serbia, Lithuania, and Kosovo.
So if a supposed "Third World" Country can be forward thinking enough to recognize the value that women also have in leadership positions; so should the supposed most advanced country in the world.

We live in the "Land of Opportunity." I truly believe the opportunity is there for a Woman as well. Leaders are not born they are developed. Just like JFK was developed to become a president so should a Woman be Developed into a Leader.
Women Voting can make it Happen!
