Try Not to Get Cut

You can't break through a Glass Ceiling without getting a little cut up.

Any person who has been the first at anything - first woman to join the Citadel, the first African American to go to a Desegregated School in the south, the first Man on the Moon; has had to face many challenges and obstacles that probably seemed insurmountable at the time. They may have not even enjoy their victory because of all of the turmoil but THEY WERE THE FIRST. Someone always has to be and it clears the way, free of as much glass hopefully, for others to follow.

Some people may be better at breaking glass, they may learn to take precautions before breaking it or even safer ways to break through the glass; but even the most skilled person is going to get a few scratches.

So if you have gotten cut up a bit by being one of the firsts in a social changing situation; wear your scars with pride. 

Remember -- You Made History and We ALL are forever grateful to you for it.

An American Tradition among Women

In the early days of this country; especially on the frontier, there were no formal modes of communication. 

                               
Women would gather during quilting bees, jelly making, and barn raisings; they would talk of all that was happening in the community and develop friendships. Newspapers were a city amenity. Even in the urban areas most people still conveyed news of marriages, childbirths, and deaths by word of mouth. 

Today with news streaming on a continual basis; gossip has moved from a way to convey important events to a way to slander others. 

Gossip is very addicting and we all fall prey to it; but it is also very damaging, especially to female friendships. It serves as another form of division among us that should be eradicated if strengthening the bonds of the community is the goal.

Women Race Car Drivers

NASCAR has allowed female drivers since its start in 1949 and several women raced that first year -  Sara Christian, raced in the inaugural NASCAR race but was unable to complete the race. 

After 1949 female racers were pretty much nonexistent until 1976, when Janet Guthrie participated in the 1976 World 600, finishing 15th -placing ahead of Dale Earnhardt. 

In 1988, Shawna Robinson became the first woman to win a NASCAR Touring Series event and in 2003 she would also use the first all-female pit crew for a race at Texas Motor Speedway.

In 2004, The Drive for Diversity program was founded by NASCAR and female and minority drivers became more prevalent.

NO Woman has ever won the Indy 500 but five women have competed-Janet Guthrie(1977-79),Lyn St. James(1992-97, 2000),Sarah Fisher(2000-04, 2007), Danica Patrick (2005-07)and Milka Duno (2007).
When I was doing the research for this post, all I could find I initially searched for woman race car driver was a bunch of inappropriate halloween costumes. Come on young ladies, we need more women in this career field!
