Try Not to Get Cut

You can't break through a Glass Ceiling without getting a little cut up.

Any person who has been the first at anything - first woman to join the Citadel, the first African American to go to a Desegregated School in the south, the first Man on the Moon; has had to face many challenges and obstacles that probably seemed insurmountable at the time. They may have not even enjoy their victory because of all of the turmoil but THEY WERE THE FIRST. Someone always has to be and it clears the way, free of as much glass hopefully, for others to follow.

Some people may be better at breaking glass, they may learn to take precautions before breaking it or even safer ways to break through the glass; but even the most skilled person is going to get a few scratches.

So if you have gotten cut up a bit by being one of the firsts in a social changing situation; wear your scars with pride. 

Remember -- You Made History and We ALL are forever grateful to you for it.

They are NOT Synonymous

Being "for something" does not have to mean you are "against" something else.


It is possible to want Empowerment of Women and the advancement of them without making it at the expense of men. The advancement of one class of people should not mean the oppression of another. How many wars would never have been fought if the oppressed had not then turned into the oppressors.


Abundance is not limited. Everyone benefits from equality. Individuals are then treated as such, rather than as a class.

Women will Advance in this country and in this world when they work together rather than against each other. If we could ever harness our collective power, some amazing things would happen. 

EMPOWERMENT NOT BELITTLEMENT IS THE KEY TO ANY  ADVANCEMENT 

Heroes Among Us

 Nominate a woman you know for a Hero Award.

They say that women work twice as hard and receive half of the credit for all they do on a daily basis. Every community is thriving with unsung heroes, find one in yours and submit HER name for recognition. 

Many organizations have a Local Hero Award - Local Radio Stations, Chambers of Commerce, local chapters of NAACP, LULAC, United Way... 

Even the most confident of individuals needs to experience appreciation. It is a simple step that could have a big impact. Honor a Woman you work with, who teaches your children, or a health professional,etc. that has been serving the community and taking care of your family for years. Let her know that she is appreciated! By doing so You WILL be her Hero.

Education - A Precious Commodity

Women are still fighting in parts of the world to have access to education.

The first college to allow coeducation in the US was Oberlin College in 1837. In 1841, we saw the first women (3) to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in this country. Then Oberlin was responsible for another historical landmark; when in 1862, Mary Jane Patterson, the first African American woman obtained a college degree.

In the 1950s, when it became prevalent for women to start attending college; most women were there to earn an Ms. Degree. College was merely a way to pass the time until the real job of being someone's wife came about. Eventhough we have advanced from our archaic way of thinking that education is only a leisure for women, many women still do not appreciate the value of it.

Education is one of the quickest and surest ways of advancement for women in any field: 

• A woman with a two-year associate's degree earns 28% more than one with a high school education
• A woman with a bachelor's degree earns 75% more than one with a high school education.

If you have educated yourself be proud. If you've never sought advanced courses after high school, consider making that investment in yourself.
