So often these days, I see young women that have no respect for themselves. They degrade themselves in public, claiming shock value or independence. It seems the mentality of many women, that if they degrade or victimize themselves before anyone else can - that somehow gives them power.
In actuality, it just gives away pieces of yourself and grants others the permission to treat you with less respect than you deserve. This leads to poor and unhealthy relationships, self worth issues and re-victimization.
If you don't respect yourself, how do you expect anyone else to.
Self worth is something that is not gained from other people or outside sources, rather it is cultivated from within. True self empowerment never comes from self deprecation.
Believe in your own Self Worth!

Often during the whirlwind of the season of Love, we forget about one of the most important Loves of All ~
Loving Yourself
We must first love ourselves with all of our flaws and shortcomings before anyone else can truly love us.
Tell yourself every morning how marvelous you are.
Do something nice for yourself on a regular basis.
Don't talk bad about yourself, even to yourself.
Don't sell yourself short.
Be kind to yourself.
Forgive yourself.
Loving yourself is the foundation of a stable, happy, well adapted individual who can then form meaningful, healthy, and loving relationships with others.
We wonder why we keep ending up in the same horrible relationships with - at the worst abusive men or at the least emotionally constipated ones.
When we start seeing a negative pattern in relationships, it is time to take a hard look at ourselves. Those of us who tend to be Codependent, usually have low self esteems from a variety of childhood issues. When we are insecure, we tend to seek out relationships where we can "save" someone so we feel we are needed or have a purpose. It then turns into a terribly emotionally manipulative(on both sides) and horribly dysfunctional situation that we call a "relationship." Codependency is a hard cycle to break. For many it may be the only kind of relationships that we have ever had ~ taking care of a parent as a child, trying to get the attention of an absent parent, etc.
But if having an emotionally healthy life, which includes our relationships; is a goal of yours - codependency must be addressed. It may not be something you can totally change over night, but realizing that the dynamic is occurring is the first step in a healthier direction. When we realize we have set up a codependent relationship, we must admit that we have both played into establishing that dynamic. We can never truly change the way another person acts or treats us, so focusing on our own role is the easiest way to begin making change.
There is a certain amount of dependency in any relationship but when it is harmful or emotionally damaging to either or both parties; then it is not a healthy aspect of that relationship.

(It should be noted that I am not a behavior specialist - there are many great books out there addressing the issue and of course professional therapy.)
Beauty should be about making people feel good about themselves and happy with who they are, NOT trying to make people look like photoshopped supermodels.
Let's help women to have a healthier body image, one that is conducive to their natural body weight. Some women are born with small structures others with larger structures. Healthy is the key. Strive to eat healthy and stay active rather than diet. I threw away my scale over 20 years ago. Be mindful of critical remarks of young girls about their looks or weight. These early comments can affect them their whole lives. Encourageyour daughters, nieces, sisters to have REAL LIFE role models rather than Movie Stars and Models.
