Jersey Shoredom

Shows such as Jersey Shore are the Jerry Springer of this generation.


Considered to be a trendsetting phenomenon in the current culture, this reality show has set records for MTV in ratings, making it their most viewed series of all time. 


People are drawn to it, like moths to a flame. It's a real life soap opera targeted to a young generation. The characters cuss each other out, have disregard for each other, and are totally consumed with their self image.  


As comical as it seems to a more mature audience; shows like Jersey Shore are modeling to our youth ~ materialism, obsessive vanity, lack of integrity, and destructive communication. In real life, people cannot conduct themselves so outlandishly; no employer or instructor would tolerate it in a professional setting. 


We seem to be in a very Superficial time in this world's existence - convenience, luxury, and accumulation are all qualities that the new generation values. The ideals of Respect, Integrity, and Compassion seem to be in a dormant state of underappreciation for the time being.

Mother Daughter Day

With work, homework, soccer practice, ballet, band concerts, and all of the other things that are involved in raising children; life gets very hectic. During this whirlwind of everyday activity, meaningful time however is hard to come by with our growing children. As children get older, it seems even harder to manage an outing with them yet those teen years can be essential time for children to connect with their parents.


Schedule some quality time every few weeks, with that young lady in your life. Plan a fun excursion that will give you both a wonderful memory:

1. Go to a climbing gym with her
2. Take a Cooking workshop together
3. Go meet your local representative or senator
4. Paint ceramics at your local Paint-A-Plate place
5. Go get a pedicure or manicure
6. Take her to a fancy, dress up dinner
7. Go on a bike ride on a nature trail
8. Take your daughter to the theater
9. Go horseback riding
10. Bake some cookies and deliver them to an elderly neighbor
11. Have fun Go Cart Racing

If you do not have a daughter, take a niece or other young relative. The Big Brother Big Sister Program in your area is also a great way to give your time to deserving youth. 

Young girls need a positive role model during these formative years. Middle School and High School years are always a socially awkward time, when a young girl is becoming a young lady.


So put away the ipods, ipads, and text messaging & slow down ~ spend some quality time with your little girl before she grows up on you.  

It will make a difference :) 

True Grit

I come from a long line of gritty women.


My Great Grandmother and Grandmother were out there on the ranch and in the truck stop working right along side the men and didn't, "take nothing off of nobody." My mother put herself through law school while struggling to take care of us. I have strong willed aunts and cousins and nieces.  Being an independent, determined woman who wasn't afraid to forge her own way was nothing new to me; on the contrary, I was predisposed to it.

What You SEE You can CONCEIVE and ACHIEVE

Women who have positive role models growing up are more likely to achieve success in life. When they see strong women whose opinions matter at work and in marriage, that is the kind of relationships they will strive for as well. 

On the converse, if they grow up seeing a woman who is hit at home or otherwise mistreated; they are statistically going to recreate the same situation in their own life:

• Daughters of abused women are six times more likely to be sexually abused as girls from non-abusive families.
• Child victims of severe violence have two to four times higher rates of trouble-making friends, temper tantrums, failing grades in school, having problems in school and at home.
• Abused children are arrested by the police four times more often than nonabused children.

Regardless of whether you are an Investment Banker on Wall Street or a Stay at Home Mom in Bowling Green Kentucky, you are your children's first role model. 

How you allow other people to treat you and how much you contribute back to society will mold the kind of woman your daughter or kind of man your son becomes.

Girl Scouts Forever

This year marks the 100 year Anniversary of Girls Scouts of America

In 1912, Juliette 'Daisy' Low got together a group of young girls for hiking and The Girl Scouts of America was born. An Organization who ~ builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.


The Girl Scouts are committed to honoring all paths for girls and empowering them into confident Women.

I was a girl scout from 1-8th grade. It was a great experience for me and definitely shaped my ideas of what women could do. It was alot of FUN as well!

If you have a daughter or other young female relative, I would encourage them to get involved in this organization. You will see a more confident, self sufficient young lady emerge from such a rich experience.
